Moto G smartphones are one of the most loved budget smartphones, and the new Moto G5 seems to be a worthy successor of the previous generation Moto G4. It has better specs and a new design, which looks similar to Moto Z smartphones in the rear camera design. However, It will not be available for sale in some countries such as the U.S.A. Check out its full specs below.

Display

Moto G5 has a 5″ Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 441ppi, and that’s not at all bad. This display is perfect for watching videos or playing games, and that’s all we need from a good display. There is not much to talk about the display as you probably know about it and the current smartphone you are using a Full HD Display.

Processor

One of the most important parts of a smartphone is its processor, and without a good processor, you can’t play games without having lags, and basically, the whole phone gets super slow. Fortunately, Moto G5 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, which is quite enough to play games like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 at low or medium settings.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 sure is a low-end processor, but it is sufficient for doing basic tasks without lags or slowdown. Lenovo should have used a better processor, but this one is sufficient as well. And if you are buying a budget smartphone, you should leave the idea of getting a flagship device’s performance. You get what you pay. Also, the CPU is battery friendly.

RAM & Storage

Moto G5 has two variants. One has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of Internal Storage, and the other has 3Gb of RAM and 32GB of Internal Storage. It might not be enough for many people, but there is an SD card slot to expand Storage Up to 128 GB. Problem Solved.

Camera

The camera is now an essential part of a smartphone, and I possibly can’t imagine life without it. We use a camera on our smartphones whenever we get a chance, and if the camera is not sufficient, It can ruin that moment for you. Well, Mogo G5 has a 13MP, f/2.0 primary camera, and It is not bad.

Images are prominent and captured nicely. The stability of the camera is also excellent. Overall, Moto G5 is an excellent device regarding the Camera.

For the selfie lovers, Moto G5 has a 5MP, f/2.2 front camera, and it is pretty decent regarding clarity. Photos are clicked quickly, and the camera clarity is also excellent. If you have used Moto G4 or are using it currently, you’ll find Moto G5’s camera a lot better.

Battery

When It comes to smartphones, the battery is a primary concern for most people. Usually, most people get one day of battery backup regardless of what smartphone they are using. That’s because of the balance between battery capacity and other specifications for a device like Moto G5.

I have expected at least a 3000 mAh battery, but it has only a 2800 mAh battery. It is not a big difference for general users but heavy users, and it is a big negative point. We are getting 4000+ mAh batteries in devices that are two times cheaper than Moto G5.

Since the Moto G5 has a 5″ screen, it should use a bit less battery, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 also doesn’t need much power, so I think that Moto G5 will last a day without any problem. If more battery is what you need, then it is not for you. However, you can also root Moto G5 to enhance the battery backup.

Price

When you are out buying a budget low-mid range device, you see many devices, and suddenly it becomes a lot tougher to decide which one to get. In the UK, Moto G5 will be available with 2GB of RAM for £169 and 3GB for £179. Considering this price, I have expected better specs, but as long as the device works without having any problems, the price is good enough.

Moto G5 Plus

Moto G5 Plus is slightly bigger and better than Moto G5, just like its name suggests. What we have seen from the previous generation Moto G devices, the Plus model is always more attractive than the regular model. This time we are expecting the same as well. You get much better specs as compared to Moto G5. Check them out below.

Specifications

Display 5.2″ Full HD Display

Operating System Android 7.0

Display

Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2″ Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 424ppi. That’s supposed to be perfect for those who need a little bit bigger display but still want to maintain the overall handy factor.

The screen clarity is fantastic, and it might not be the perfect choice for those who like to watch movies and use youtube a lot, but it is still a great display, and gaming on it is magnificent and comfortable to hold because of its size. It doesn’t irritate eyes if used for a long time continuously, and that’s what counts — overall, a fantastic display.

Processor

Moto G5 Plus uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, powerful enough to play massive games for many hours without legs. We have seen the outstanding performance of the chip on Moto Z Play. Usually, when you play a game, smartphones work fine, but as time passes, it becomes difficult for smartphones to handle the games because the Processor and GPU keep working continuously.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is a mid-range processor and performs well. Companies are still using SD625 instead of SD650 or SD652 because the speed difference is not much when using a smartphone for simple tasks, and SD625 is a much more power-efficient processor than the newer mid-range processors.

RAM & Storage

Moto G5 Plus also has two variants, just like the Moto G5. One has 2GB of RAM coupled with 32GB of Internal Storage. Other has 4Gb of RAM along with 64GB of Internal Storage.

If you want to buy Moto G5 Plus and don’t have any need to use heavy apps, then the 2GB RAM variant is more than sufficient.

If you are a heavy user who likes to multitask a lot and plays a lot of games, you should go for the 4GB RAM variant to handle all processes easily.

Internal storage is usually a problem for most of us because companies that can provide 128GB or more internal storage in their smartphones keep their prices high. It is not the case for Moto G5 Plus because it has a dedicated SD card slot to extend the storage up to 128GB, and that’s a lot.

Camera

The camera is a need for almost everyone now. It doesn’t matter if it’s a festival or any other special occasion, we all lose to take photos and record videos, and It’s a fact. Moto G5 Plus has a 12 MP, f/1.7 primary camera, which takes amazing pictures and has excellent autofocus. I am impressed with Moto G series smartphones this year.

Images are clear, and the focus is excellent. The overall stability of the camera when you are recording videos is also excellent. As far as the rear camera is concerned, Moto G5 Plus impressed me.

As for the front camera, Moto G5 Plus has a 5MP, f/2.2 front camera, and it clicks impressive selfies. The photos are clear, and it doesn’t look like it is taken from a 5MP camera.

As compared to the previous generation Moto G series smartphones, this year’s Moto G5 Plus is a worthy successor regarding the camera.

Battery

Probably the most important thing in a smartphone is its battery. Note 7 battery explosion is an example of how bad a smartphone is dependent on its battery. One big problem and the company is done for. Lenovo surely used a smaller battery in Moto G5, but for the Moto G5 Plus, Lenovo used a 3000 mAh battery, and it sure doesn’t look sufficient enough. Still, most of it depends on software optimization and how much power the processor needs.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is a power-efficient processor, and it provides decent performance, so it is a perfect choice for a mid-range device like Moto G5 Plus. Moto devices are known for their stock Android experience, so it should save battery because, most of the time, Custom UI uses more battery than stock Android. Moto G5 Plus will last at least for a day if you consider everything, and that’s quite good.

Moto G5 Plus also has TurboCharge, and Motorola claims that it’ll give you 6 hours of battery life by only 15 minutes of charging. Considering the battery usage and everything, if the smartphone lasts for a day and then you have to charge it for a lot less time than other devices, it surely is a sweet deal.

You can also root Moto G5 Plus with just some simple steps.

I have many smartphones in which some charge quickly and last for a day or even more, and some take forever to charge and then don’t last for even a day. Moto G5 Plus surely impressed me. If the battery is your priority while deciding which smartphone to buy, then go for it because you may get a bigger battery in other smartphones, but you won’t get this charging speed in them.

Price

In the end, it is all about Price. If you like a device, but its price is too high, or the price is good, but the device itself is not that good, then it is a problem.

In India, the Moto G5 Plus is priced at Rs. 14999 for the 3GB RAM 16GB internal storage model and Rs. 16999 for the 4GB RAM 32GB storage model.

In the UK, the 2GB RAM Moto G5 model is priced at £169.99, and the 3GB RAM 32GB storage model is priced at around £179.99.

In Europe, the Moto G5 will cost €199 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage model.

In the USA, only the Moto G5 Plus will be sold, starting at $229, while In Europe, it will cost more at €279 for 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model in the U.K., it will cost £259.

Release Date

Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus were released in India, the USA, the UK, Europe, Brazil, and some other Asian countries on 26th February, and It will be available to buy in the states by the end of March. Currently, Moto G5 is available to pre-order from Amazon UK. While in India, the device was launched on 15th March.

In my opinion, Moto G5 Plus is not giving the specs that can be given at this price. Companies like Xiaomi are offering better specs and overall design at less than half the price. The devices have build quality durable enough to last 5-6 years if the user is exceptionally caring and doesn’t play with it like a toy.

But well, It’s a Moto device, and it has stock android experience waiting for you. The performance is decent enough, so if you are a typical user looking for a smartphone to do core and medium and sometimes heavy tasks, then the Moto G5 Plus is an excellent choice. Considering its brand reputation and all, I definitely recommend Moto G5 Plus. Even if it scores a bit low in my imaginary chart, it’s still on the positive side. Keep visiting. We’ll give an update every time there is something new coming.

  1. You mention Xiaomi phones that have the same specs as the Moto g5 plus for half the price and that are more durable. Could you please provide some info on ‘Xiaomi and other’ brand phones?
    Thanks..
