The device will have a 5.5 inch Full HD display with a resolution of 1920*1080, Movie watching and playing games would be a nice experience on a bigger Full HD screen. It will surely be an IPS LCD screen rather than an AMOLED panel as TheVerge noted.

The leak suggests the G5 Plus will come with 5.2inches FHD display. The smartphone was previously rumored to sport a 5.5-inch FHD display. It is also possible that there could be 2 variants of G5 Plus, one with 5.2 inches and the other one with 5.5-inch FHD display. For detailed specifications check below.
Processor, RAM, and Storage
The next Gen Moto G5 will be launched with the latest Octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, which is blazing fast and power efficient at the same time.
The biggest problem that every smartphone manufacturer has to tackle while manufacturing a smartphone with 8 cores is the overheating problem because Octa-core phones tend to heat really fast while gaming or multi-tasking, even though Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 625 does not sort have any overheating problem but still it would be a test to see how Motorola handles this problem.
The Snapdragon 625 can clock up to 1.95GHz, However, some manufacturers limit them so that there would be no heating issue. However, the 4 Cortex A53 cores are really fast and the architecture helps them to handle almost all kinds of CPU intensive load.
If the performance of the Moto G5 is to be considered the phone will be blazing fast and will handle all your day to day tasks with ease and even the graphic intensive tasks will be taken good care of with the latest GPU unit from the House of Adreno.
The Adreno 506 GPU is a premium class GPU clocked at 650MHz. Which is designed to handle the desktop class load? So we can say that if the chipset is going to be featured in the Moto G 2017 edition then you can expect some premium class performance on it. The Adreno 506 GPU is designed to provide processing power and amazing visual detail without unnecessarily eating through your battery.
RAM And Storage
There are certain rumors which suggest that Motorola will be launching the Moto G5 in two ram models. Accordingly, it would be featured with a 3GB ram model and a 4GB one. It seems likely that the plus variant will have the 4GB ram option. So in Moto G 5th Gen Plus model with 4GB ram under the hood, lag-less performance is fully ensured.
Coming to the Storage every buyer has a different choice for some people 16GB is more than enough and for some heavy users, even 32GB seems less. So to tackle this problem there are very high chances that Motorola will be launching the Next Moto G series devices with three storage options 16/32/64GB.
Which they already did with the Moto G4 series. However, the 64GB variant will be exclusive to only some countries. The 16GB Moto G 2017 model being the cheapest option for the light user and the most expensive 64GB Moto G 5th Generation model targeted for the heavy user.
Having a good camera can be a selling point for any smartphone be it a High-end device or even a lower budget one. The Motorola is going all guns when it comes to the camera the Moto G5 is rumored to have a 13-megapixel camera with the Sony camera sensor having an aperture of F/1.7 for wide angled shots.
On the front side, it will feature a 5M OmniVision OV5695 with f/2.2 aperture and 1.4-micron OmniBSI+ pixel architecture.
The camera will also have additional features such as Moto Camera mode, Laser focus, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and digital image stabilization to counter shaky hands while clicking a picture. It would be interesting to see that Motorola will adapt the popular Dual Camera setup or not!
The Moto G4 performed really well camera wise, which we have talked in our Moto G4 Plus review. So we can assume that with the new sensor on the Moto G5 it might become the best mid-ranged camera phone of the year.
The Motorola Moto G5 is going to have a 5-megapixel OmniVision camera sensor on the front with an aperture of F/2.2 to take wide angled selfies and cater to all your video calling needs.
The Moto G 5th Gen will be launched with a 3000mAh battery, now the battery doesn’t seem to be that great with smartphones such as Asus Zenfone 3 Max and Lenovo K6 Power with a bigger battery and lesser price. But the Moto’s Pure Android UI and some custom battery tweaks can make a difference when it comes to day to day usage. Motorola has already seen the love of big batteries recently when they launched the Moto E3 Power in India. So we can assume that the company will not disappoint us in terms of battery capacity.
Motorola Turbo Charging 4
Interestingly, what makes the Moto G5 stand out of the crowd is the Motorola’s Turbo Charging 4 technology, which, according to several claims will power your device to 60% in just 30 minutes.
If these claims hold to be true with the Moto G5 this can be a great selling point for the device as it competes with Dash charging in the One Plus 3T which is $150 more expensive.
Expected Features and Rumors
The Motorola Moto G 2017 has still a lot of time till it’s officially launched, but this doesn’t mean that there is anything much to say about the device. There have been several rumors already surfacing on the internet.
One interesting rumor suggests that Moto G 2017 will have Dolby Atmos Audio which is super awesome for all the Audiophiles out there.
Another rumor associated with the Moto G 5th generation is that the device will be launched with Turbo Charging 3 which is Motorola’s take on the quick charge, so as far as the battery backup is concerned the Motorola Moto G 5 will Give you ample screen on time with really fast charging times.
The Moto G4 and Moto G3 had a really great camera and it went on to set a benchmark in the mid-range smartphone market so the expectations from the Moto G5 are even bigger. Some camera related features which we would likely see in the Moto G5 are the PDAF (phase detect autofocus) and other Moto Camera add-ons which marked their debut in the Moto Z and were recently seen in the Moto G4 and Moto Z Play.
If Motorola Decides to add these features in the Moto G 5th gen it would really make the device stand out in the crowded mid-range smartphone market where having a feature rich camera can be a great plus point.
The Fingerprint reader on the Motorola devices is already best in its class with high accuracy level, the next year Moto G series will feature an improved fingerprint sensor with faster unlock times and even better accuracy.
Now one thing which separates Motorola from other Smartphone companies is that After Nexus (Now Pixel) devices Moto devices are second in line for the latest Android updates.
The Android Nougat update is around the corner for the Motorola Moto G4 and it is fully assured that the Motorola Moto G 5 will be launched with the latest version of Android or preferably with the Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box.
A Recent report suggests, Nokia could launch smartphones in Europe very soon. And fear of Nokia’s entry forced Motorola to reduce the pricing of their upcoming Moto G5 series smartphones. According to Roland Quandt, Moto G5 will start at €189 in Europe.
The Motorola Moto G4 was launched at the price of 12,499 and the Moto G4 plus in 13,499 so we can expect a similar pricing strategy for the Moto G5 and the Moto G5 plus if we are to estimate the price of these upcoming devices. According to the sources, the base model of Moto G 5th Gen will price around $249 in the USA and INR13499 in India.
Expected pricing for Moto G5 and G5 Plus’s base model in different countries.
|Country||Moto G5 Price||Moto G5 Plus Price|
|India||INR 13,499||INR 14,999|
|Brazil||1099 Real||1499 Real|
The mid ranged smartphone market is already crowded with the likes of Xiaomi, Samsung and several other Brands which are launching several mid-end phones at regular intervals. The current king of this price range is the Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Xiaomi’s RedMi Note3 which have been selling like hot cakes so Motorola already has quite a few competitors for the upcoming Moto G 5th Gen.
So to be able to thrive in such a tough market, The Lenovo-owned Motorola needs to be really aggressive when it comes to the pricing of the G5 and the Moto G 5 Plus.
Now, as far as the release date goes, the Motorola announced the Moto G4 earlier this year in the month of May but several days ago, there was a leak of the Motorola’s Roadmap for the upcoming year.
Which highlighted the fact that the company had a plan of launching the phone in a very quick succession so for the prediction of the release date of the Moto G 5 and Moto G5 Plus. It is estimated that the phone will be officially announced by the Motorola on 26 February at MWC2017 Barcelona. or if it is delayed for some reasons, the release date will be pushed to the first week of March.
Now talking about the availability of the phone after it is announced well the phone would be available to buy across the globe. However, it hasn’t been clear that which country would be the first one to get it, but if the company’s history of launching phones country wise is to be considered the MotoG5 and the MotoG5 Plus would be first launched in the Asian subcontinent followed shortly by a release in the US and other countries.
Accordingly, Moto G5 aka Moto G 2017 will step up in everything from hardware to software and will release in MWC 2017 on 26 February at 04:30 PM.
Now, as far as the rumors go you have to take everything with a pinch of salt, and as for the review of the upcoming Moto G 5th generation is concerned, we just have to say that the device will be a nice little upgrade from the previous gen, as the Moto G4 was a huge success the Motorola now has a pressure to make it even bigger this time.
If we are talking about the USP or the wow factor of the Moto G 5th Generation. It is still unclear as the Motorola G5 leaks haven’t shown anything fancy, till now there are several new additions such as Dolby Atmos Audio and the Turbo Charging 3. As the time progresses, we will see a lot of rumors about this phone. Which will help us in having a clear picture on the phone by the time it is officially announced?
We would just like to say that 2017 will be a huge year. If smartphones are to be considered, the new Redmi Note 5 will be launched and it is iPhone’s 10th anniversary too. So to make the name among the likes of these big smartphone brands, Motorola will have to up their game with the Moto G 5 (Moto G 5th Gen) if it wants to attract new buyers and to make sure the loyal fans remain loyal.
