Lenovo has finally launched the 5th Generation of Moto G devices and they are not just having new and better specs but also have a much more premium build and design.

As usual, the Moto G5 Plus has slightly better specs but it is not different from just inside. Moto G5 Plus has bigger display panel than Moto G5. Now the Moto G5 Plus really is “Plus”. Let’s start with Moto G5 first.

Moto G5 and G5 Plus is available to pre-order in Europe (the UK, Germany and Some other countries) with lowest price guarantee.

Moto G5

Moto G smartphones are one of the most loved budget smartphones and the new Moto G5 seems to be a worthy successor of the previous generation Moto G4. It has better specs and a new design which look a bit similar to Moto Z smartphones in terms of rear camera design. However, It will be not available for sale in some countries such as the U.S.A. Check out its full specs below.

Display

Moto G5 display

Moto G5 has a 5″ Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 441ppi and that’s not at all bad. This display is perfect for watching videos or playing games and that’s all we need from a good display. There is not much to talk about display as you all probably know about it and the current smartphone you are using probably has a Full HD Display.

Processor

One of the most important parts of a smartphone is its processor and without a good processor you can’t play games without having lags and basically, the whole phone gets super slow. Fortunately, Moto G5 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 which is quiet enough to play games like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 at low or medium settings.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 sure is a low-end processor but it is very much sufficient for doing basic tasks without lags or slowdown. Lenovo should have used a better processor but this one is sufficient as well. And if you are buying a budget smartphone, you should leave the idea of getting the performance of a flagship device. You get what you pay for. Also, the CPU is battery friendly.

RAM & Storage

Moto G5 has 2 variants. One has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of Internal Storage and the other has 3Gb of RAM and 32GB of Internal Storage. This might not be enough for many people but there is SD Card slot with which you can expand Storage Up to 128 GB. Problem Solved.

Camera

Moto G5 camera

The camera is now an important part of a smartphone and I possibly can’t imagine life without it. We use a camera of our smartphones whenever we get a chance and if the camera is not good enough It can ruin that moment for you. Well, Mogo G5 has a 13MP, f/2.0 primary camera and It is pretty good.

Images are very clear and captured nicely. The stability of camera is also very good. Overall, Moto G5 is a good device in terms of Camera.

Now for the selfie lovers, Moto G5 has a 5MP, f/2.2 front camera and it is pretty decent in terms of clarity. Photos are clicked easily and the camera clarity is also good. If you have used Moto G4 or are using it currently, you’ll find Moto G5’s camera a lot better.

Battery

When It comes to smartphones, the battery is a major concern for most of the people. Usually, most people get 1 day of battery backup regardless of what smartphone they are using and that’s because of the balance between battery capacity and other specifications. For a device like Moto G5, I have expected at least a 3000 mAh battery but it has only a 2800 mAh battery. It is not really a big difference for general users but for heavy users, it is a big negative point. We are getting 4000+ mAh battery in devices that are 2 times cheaper than Moto G5.

Since the moto G5 has a 5″ screen, it should use a bit less battery and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 also doesn’t need much power so I think that Moto G5 will last a day without any problem. If more battery is what you need then it is not for you.

Price

When you are out buying a budget low-mid range device, you see a lot of devices and suddenly it becomes a lot tougher to decide which one to get. In the UK Moto G5 will be available with 2GB of RAM for £169, and with 3GB for £179. Considering this price I have expected better specs but as long as the device works without having any problems, the price is good enough.

Moto G5 Plus

Moto G5 Plus is a slightly bigger and better than Moto G5 just like its name suggests. What we have seen from the previous generation Moto G devices, the Plus model is always more popular than the normal model. This time we are expecting the same as well. You get much better specs as compared to Moto G5. Check them out below.

Display

Moto G5-Plus display

Moto G5 Plus has a 5.2″ Full HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a pixel density of 424ppi and that’s supposed to be perfect for those people who need a little bit bigger display but still, want to maintain the overall handy factor.

The display clarity is amazing and it might not be the perfect choice for those people who like to watch movies and use youtube a lot but it is still an amazing display and gaming on it is really good and comfortable to hold because of its size. It doesn’t irritate eyes if used for a long time constantly and that’s what really counts. Overall an amazing display.

Processor

Moto G5 Plus uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 which is powerful enough to play heavy games for many hours without legs. We have seen the outstanding performance of the chip on Moto Z Play. Usually, when you play a game, smartphones work fine but as the time passes, it becomes difficult for smartphones to handle the games because the Processor and GPU keep working continuously.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is a mid-range processor and performs really well. The reason that companies are still using SD625 instead of SD650 or SD652 is because the speed difference is not really much when using a smartphone for simple tasks and SD625 is a much more power efficient processor as compared to the newer mid-range processors.

RAM & Storage

Moto G5 Plus also has 2 variants just like the Moto G5. One has 2GB of RAM coupled with 32GB of Internal Storage. Other has 4Gb of RAM along with 64GB of Internal Storage.

If you want to buy Moto G5 Plus and you don’t really have any need of using heavy apps then the 2GB RAM variant is more than sufficient for you and if you are a heavy user who likes to multitask a lot and who plays a lot of games then you should definitely go for the 4GB RAM variant so that it can handle all processes easily.

Internal storage is usually a problem for most of us because companies that are able to provide 128GB or more internal storage in their smartphones keep their prices high as well. This is not the case for Moto G5 Plus because it has a dedicated SD Card slot with which you can extend the storage up to 128GB and that’s a lot.

Camera

Moto G5-Plus camera

The camera is a need for almost everyone now. Doesn’t matter if it’s a festival or it’s any other special occasion, we all lose to take photos and record videos and It’s a fact. Moto G5 Plus has a 12 MP, f/1.7 primary camera which takes amazing photos and has great autofocus. I am really impressed with Moto G series smartphones this year.

Images are really clear and the focus is great. The overall stability of camera when you are recording videos is also great. As far as the rear camera is concerned, Moto G5 Plus really impressed me.

As for the front camera, Moto G5 Plus has a 5MP, f/2.2 front camera and it clicks amazing selfies. The photos are really clear and it doesn’t look like it is taken from a 5MP camera.

As compared to the previous generation Moto G series smartphones, this year’s Moto G5 Plus really is a worthy successor in terms of camera.

Battery

Probably the most important thing in a smartphone is its battery. Note 7 battery explosion is an example of how bad a smartphone is depended on its battery. One big problem and the company is done for. Lenovo surely used a smaller battery in Moto G5 but for the Moto G5 Plus, Lenovo used a 3000 mAh battery and it sure doesn’t look sufficient enough but most of it depends on the software optimization and how much power the processor needs.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 is a power efficient processor and it provides decent performance so it is a perfect choice for a mid-range device like Moto G5 Plus. Moto devices are known for their stock android experience so it should save battery as well because of most of the time Custom UI use more battery than stock android. If you consider everything, Moto G5 Plus will last at least for a day and that’s quite good.

Moto G 2017 battery

Moto G5 Plus also has turbocharging and Motorola claims that it’ll give you 6 hours of battery life by only 15 minutes of charging. Considering the battery usage and everything, if the smartphone lasts for a day and then you have to charge it for a lot less time as compared to other devices then it surely is a sweet deal.

I have many smartphones in which some charge really quickly and last for a day or even more and some take forever to charge and then don’t last for even a day. Moto G5 Plus surely impressed me. So if the battery is your priority while deciding which smartphone to buy then go for it because you may get a bigger battery in other smartphones but you won’t get this charging speed in them.

Price

In the end its all about Price. If you like a device but its price it too high or the price is good but the device itself is not that good then it is a problem.

In India, the Moto G5 Plus priced at Rs. 14999 for the 3GB RAM 16GB internal storage model and Rs. 16999 for the 4GB RAM 32GB storage model.

In the UK the 2GB RAM Moto G5 model is priced at £169.99 and the 3GB RAM 32GB storage model is priced at around £179.99.

In Europe, the Moto G5 will cost €199 for the 2GB RAM and 16GB storage model.

In the USA, only the Moto G5 Plus will be sold, starting at $229 while In Europe it will cost more at €279 for 3GB RAM and 32GB storage model, and in the U.K. it will cost £259.

Release Date

Moto G5, Moto G5 Plus released in India, the USA, the UK, Europe, Brazil and some other Asian countries on 26th February and It will be available to buy in the countries by the end of march. Currently, Moto G5 is available to pre-order on Amazon UK. While in India the device was launched on 15th March.

In my opinion, Moto G5 Plus is not giving the specs that can be given at this price. Companies like Xiaomi are giving better specs and overall design at a less than half the price and the devices have build quality durable enough to last 5-6 years if the user is extremely caring and doesn’t play with it like its a toy.

But well, It’s a Moto device and it has stock android experience waiting for you and the performance is decent enough as well so if you are a normal user looking for a smartphone to do basic and medium and sometimes heavy tasks then the Moto G5 Plus is a good choice and considering its brand reputation and all, I definitely recommend Moto G5 Plus. Even if it scores a bit low in my imaginary chart, it’s still on the positive site. Keep visiting. We’ll give an update every time there is something new coming.
